Enjoy some of the best steaks in Johannesburg, peruse the extensive wine list or sip a signature cocktail in the centre of the city’s financial district.
Flowing onto the iconic new The Marc development and across from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, The Bull Run is itself an icon of Sandton, the richest square mile in Africa.
Rub shoulders with the elite in this spacious, newly refurbished restaurant, as you sample a perfectly matured steak, enjoy a custom-designed gin and tonic from the renowned Dollar Bar, or feel the Maude Street bustle from a pavement table in the most dynamic precinct in the city.
Adjoining the historic Protea Hotel by Marriott® Johannesburg Balalaika Sandton, with a larger-than-life sculpted bronze bull outside, and a masculine, moneyed theme expressing this established eatery’s long history in the financial district, the Bull Run is effortlessly, yet affordably sumptuous. Trading hours from 11am until 10.30pm every day, it’s an oasis of welcoming, no-fuss culinary sophistication, at ground zero in South Africa’s beating commercial heart.
We’re very proud of the testimonials we receive from our guests.

This place was terrific. Was staying at the hotel attached to the restaurant. As steak eaters this was the ideal place for us - and we loved the steaks and the ribs! Desserts was tasty, service was good, friendly and very helpful. Highly recommended if in the area!

This is a buzzing places packed with nice people and awesomely cooked food. To make things short, we ordered 6 main dishes which 4/6 were different kinds of steaks, pork belly and a chicken curry. On side we had some fries, salad and vegies. We all tried all the dishes and agreed that we are mind blown by the quality of the meat but also the cooking level was delivered as requested. Medium-rare. This is a highly recommended restaurant on whatever the occasion.

We ate outside for 3 nights and 1 night inside as it started raining. The choice of food was very good. We thought it would only be meat but there was a good selection of fish as well as vegetarian. The local wines were also very good but the white wine could have been cooler otherwise good portions of food. It was a short walk from the Hilton Hotel so was a good option.

Hadn't been to the Bull Run for a number of years and the fillet steak was every bit as good as I remember it. I always ask for rare in order to have a perfect medium rare steak (most restaurants ever cook meat in mud experience). Arguably the best meat in town and at least as good as the Butchers Shop. Does the simple thing overt well and good service.

This place was terrific. Was here with a group. Im a vegetarian and found the salads were fantastic, and large in portion size. My friends are all steak eaters - and they absolutely loved the steaks! Desserts were tasty, service wad good, not flash, but friendly and helpful enough. Highly recommended!

Great service, great beef, burgers to fillets, plus venison, ostrich, snails etc. for the more adventurous. Good wine selection, and fine casual atmosphere.

Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The steaks were absolutely perfectly cooked with minimal fat (enough to give flavour in cooking but no wastage) and served with a choice of veg and ‘starch’. Mushroom sauce was a perfect condiment. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive and could t do more for you. Absolutely excellent

My wife and I stayed in the adjacent hotel so it was an easy choice. We went in without a reservation on a busy night but they were very accommodating to find us a table we preferred. Service was very good and the menu is comprehensive leaning towards steak – meet but with some lighter fare options like hamburger, chicken and vegetarian. I had a T-bone which was more than enough food and enjoy the entire meal and would recommend it for a nice night out. I suggest reservations did not see mandatory in my case

Husband & I on holiday from Oz. Had dinner here 2 nights in a row. First night was more of a quick bite - I had butter chicken curry and hubby had Thai vegetable curry. Both were good without being outstanding but that's what we expected. Next night we settled in with a nice red. Hubby had the ostrich fillet - he was over the moon with the way it was cooked - perfectly medium rare and full of flavour. My chicken was also good. Would definitely come back but we'll be back in Oz unfortunately.

The entire area around the bull run has gone through an upgrade and I’m happy to say the bull run has kept up. The menu is still wonderfully historic in its accumulation of volume and original prices of meals. The portions are incredibly generous and the waiters know their food and wine and look after you as if you were family.
